Abstract

Introduction: The study examined the relationship between academic burnout and perceived stress in Cuban psychology students, given the limited local research on this topic.
Methods: A cross-sectional design was used with 107 students from the University of Havana, employing the MBI-SS.cu (14 items, 3 dimensions) and the PSS-14 (14 items, 2 dimensions). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, reliability coefficients (Cronbach’s α, McDonald’s ω), and Spearman’s correlation.
Results: Academic burnout showed a mean score of 40.2 (SD=9.77), with Emotional Exhaustion being the most affected dimension (M=17.5), while perceived stress averaged 31.1 (SD=9.53). A significant positive correlation was found between both constructs (ρ=0.458, p<0.05), with Aca-demic Efficacy correlating with both stress dimensions.
Conclusions: The results confirmed the relationship between burnout and stress, validating the instruments in the Cuban context. The findings highlighted the need for interventions to miti-gate emotional exhaustion and strengthen coping strategies, with limitations due to the cross-sectional design and non-probabilistic sampling.
